Chaulukyas

Chaulukyas
Same as Solankis. An agnikula Rajput clan that dominated in early medieval India large parts of Gujarat and the Dec-can plateau. In 973, Tailapa II, a Chaulukya prince of south India de-throned the last Rashtrakuta ruler Kakka II, laying the foundation of the Chaulukya dynasty of Kalyani. The Chaulukyas of Vengi some-times also referred to as Eastern Chaulukyas, ruled over Andhra re-gion and a portion of Kalinga. They were defeated and humiliated by the Chola ruler Rajaraja (985-1016). The Chaulukya dynasty of Kalyani continued to rule over a large part of western Deccan down to 1185. The most famous ruler of the dynasty was Vikramaditya VI (1076-1126). Bilhana's Vikramanka-deva-charitra furnishes a de-tailed account of his reign.
